A Medicine Hat man who pleaded guilty to spreading hatred against Jews will go to trial later this year on charges he broke the conditions of his sentence.

Loki Holger Hulgaard was charged with breaching a Queen’s Bench order in the summer of 2021 while he was serving two years probation after passing currency stamped with anti-Semitic statements at a grocery store in Medicine Hat.

The one-year conditional sentence included four months house arrest following his sentencing on Dec. 8, 2020, as well as a requirement to enter intensive counselling and that he cease posting anti-Jewish, “White Genocide” and “replacement theory” essays on the internet and remove previous posts.

Probation officers searched his home in July 2021 and laid a charge of contravening a Queen’s Bench order.

Provincial Court heard from defence attorney Michael Gilchrist, of Calgary, on Thursday that a two-day trial has been booked for Dec. 15 and 16 in Medicine Hat, following a pre-trial conference in November.

At his sentencing, Hulgaard was also found guilty on a non-criminal charge of failing to update federal firearms registration after he legally changed his name from Brendan Dell. At the time he forfeited four firearms which had their serial numbers removed, and several over-capacity magazines.
