High school ball gets going

The McCoy senior Colts baseball team opened the season Wednesday night with a big win. The Colts beat the Chinook Coyotes by a score of 19-1.

Caleb Garrecht and Kyle Woolridge each threw two innings on the mound, combining for 12 strikeouts. That duo also led the way offensively, as Woolridge had two doubles and scored four runs while Garrecht had two hits of his own and knocked in five runs.

Evan Morrison scored three times while Jackson Bowal, Zach Ferguson and Zach Hauck chipped in with two runs each for the Colts.

Next action for the McCoy Colts is Wednesday when they travel to Lethbridge to face Kate Andrews High School.

The Hat High Hawks also opened their campaign Wednesday, with an 8-2 win over the LCI Rams.

Trevin Ressler threw two innings for the win with four strikeouts while Payton Eddy picked up the save while collecting three strikeouts.

Ressler also led the Hawks offensively with a run and two RBIs off two hits while Eddy also had two RBIs to go with two runs scored. Hayden King, Kobe Eskestrand and Declan Foshaug rounded out the scoring with one run each.

The Hawks next action comes May 3 when they visit the Chinook Coyotes.
