Ringette Roundup:U14 Impact wrap up season

The U14 impact competed at provincials this weekend in Beaumont and managed to close out the season with a win.

They opened the weekend tournament with a 7-4 loss against the host Beaumont Rush. Goal scorers were Sutton Provost with two, Kensie Provost and Jordy Provost with one goal each, with assists coming from Jordy Provost and Leighton Wright, with two each, and Erika Want with one.

In game two of the day, the Impact bounced back with an 8-4 win over Hinton Thrashers. Ryleigh Jackiw and Jordy Provost led offensively with three goals each, with Sophia Stock and Maren Berstad rounding out the scoring with one each. Ryleigh Jackiw and Margot Kerr both had three assists as Kensie Provost and Leighton Wright had two helpers as well.

Day one finished with a skills competition, in which Jordy Provost and Jackiw represented the Impact. Jackiw helped the South team win the fastest skater relay and Provost assisted the South to get second in agility. Both assisted the South team to take second in the shootout challenge.

The Impact opened day two of provincials with a 4-2 loss to South Calgary Karma with Jordy Provost and Berstad providing the lone goals with Kensie Provost and Wright notching assists.

In the crossover game, the Impact fell short again by a score of 6-3 against the Calgary North West Ignite. The Impact had over 50 shots in the loss with their goals coming from Ryleigh Jackiw, Ava Allchurch and Leighton Wright. Sophia Stock, Ella Seale, and Ryleigh Jackiw had the games helpers.

In the third and final day of provincials the Impact beat the Lethbridge Rattlers 6-4, finishing their season with a win.

Sadie Berstad made some key saves to help with the win as Kensie Provost led the offence with three goals. Jordy Provost, Erika Want, and Jackiw rounded out the scoring with one goal each as assists came from Wright with two and Sutton Provost, Rachel Rue, and Sarah Laternas with one a piece.

The Impact’s season comes to a close having won three gold medals (St. Albert Turkey Ring, Medicine Hat Ed Horvath and Regina Queen City Classic) and one silver (Airdrie Ring of Fire) in tournaments this season, and they finished in third place in the Ringette Calgary League with a record of 7-4-3.

U19

The U19B Mavens were in Airdrie over the weekend competing in their year-end provincials and fell short in their five games.

The Mavens lost their first game against the Northwest Tenacity 4-1 with the lone goal coming from Raynah Gibney.

Kylee Waldegger, Leah Jetter and Gibney scored in the second game, a close 4-3 loss to the South Calgary Storm.

They lost their third game 7-1 against the Hinton Xtreme, who were the eventual silver medal winners.

Nolan Reid scored four goals in the fourth game but they ultimately fell 13-7 to St. Albert. Serina Grona had two goals and Gibney had one herself to round out the scoring.

The Mavens lost their final game of the tournament, 7-6 to the Airdrie Rampage. Reid and Waldegger led the way with two goals while Grona and Gibney had one goal each.

There were also five ‘players of the game’ awarded throughout the weekend, with Trinity Wikjord, Abby Guest, Jetter, Reid and Waldegger receiving the honours.
