More than 10,000 Easter eggs will be hidden throughout Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede’s Fieldhouse on April 2 as part of the inaugural Medicine Hat’s Best Easter Egg Hunt.

The hunt is a free-of-charge event, established and sponsored by local businesses including Fire Dragon Taekwondo and BGSA Radiology. Mark Pellerin, the event’s founder, came up with the idea after last year’s abolition of the Medicine Hat City Centre Development Agency, which used to host a downtown Easter egg hunt.

“We decided to step up and host it,” Pellerin told the News. “I’m hoping this will become an annual thing.”

Pellerin and his fellow sponsors will be hiding more than 10,000 chocolate eggs throughout the Fieldhouse, as well as plastic eggs containing coins, coupons, candies and other surprises. Also up for grabs will be prizes, including two televisions.

The hunt is open to children ages 12 and under and is sorted by age group. Those ages four and under invited to search for eggs at 10 a.m; children ages five to seven are welcome to begin searching at 10:30 a.m.; children ages eight to 12 can start at 11 a.m.

The Easter Bunny will also make an appearance at the event and would be happy to take photos with children and families at no cost.

Admission is free and while registration is available online at medhatevents.ca, it is not required. Participants must provide their own Easter egg baskets.
