Four of Medicine Hat’s youngest break dancers made waves in a Calgary competition over the weekend. The foursome of Melanson siblings competed at the Essence 1 vs. 1 Breaking Battle in Calgary, and each came away with an honour. Three-year-old Jase Melanson won an energy award while six-year-old Ethan won a cypher award. Amayiah, aged eight, took part in her first battle while 10-year-old Asher made it in the top eight competing against 32 adults and four youth. Their father Aaron also won an exhibition battle against one of Alberta’s top 16 breakers. “It’s great to see youth coming out to events again and being inspired to work hard and have fun,” Kendra Melanson said in an email to the News. Kendra, who also competed over the weekend and Aaron are a husband and wife duo who own Elements Dance Studio in Medicine Hat. 6
