A request has been made for city council to adopt the Community Wellbeing and Safety Strategy Advisory Committee funding recommendations.
A report was submitted Thursday by Community Social Development General manager Martin Thomsen to the Cultural and Social Standing Policy Committee of city council. The committee includes Mark Campbell, Jenn Schmidt-Rempel, Jeff Carlson and Nick Paladino.
With funding leveraged from Family and Community Support Services, Outreach Support Services Initiative and the Reaching Home funding portfolio, council is being asked to consider these requests:
1. Approve $11,203.56 to Family Ties Association to deliver the River House Permanent Supportive Housing program.
2. Approve $126,921 to Streets Alive Mission to deliver the Repurpose Centre and Trusteeship services.
3. Approve $391,012 to the Young Women’s Christian Association of Lethbridge and District to deliver the Hestia and Women’s Permanent Supportive Housing program.
4. Approve $53,270.20 to the Canadian Mental Health Association to deliver the Outreach Mobile Team program.
5. Approve $20,256.16 to Volunteer Lethbridge to provide volunteerism programming.
6. Approve $30,100 to the University of Lethbridge for the Building Brains program.
7. Approve $117,720 to Lethbridge Senior Citizen Organization for the senior services programming.
8. Approve $3,500 to be allocated to Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 4 for the Family First Facilitator program.
9. Approve $1,480 to be allocated to Southern Alberta Self-Help Association for the VERSA permanent supportive housing program.
10. Approve $64,064 to be allocated to the Lethbridge and Region Community Housing Corporation for the Eviction Prevention program.
CWSS agreements were approved by the CWS advisory committee and city council in 2020. Funding for programs comes from the provincial and federal governments.
As part of a funding agreement review process, city administration confirms ongoing program funding availability and the ongoing need for the funded programs.
Council approvals are being asked for the recommended program funding allocation adjustments that were approved by the CWSS advisory committee in February. All CWSS allocations are subject to funding approval from both provincial and federal governments and the completion of the City’s annual external audit.
