1935 – DOREEN FILGAS – 2022

Doreen May Filgas (nee Curry) passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice on March 8th 2022 at the age of 86 years. Marianne Appolonia Hintz of Medicine Hat passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the age of 84 years, beloved wife of the late Bernhard Hintz. She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Betty Ann (Larry) Bernath, Jim (Cindy) Hintz, Don (Marg) Hintz, Jerry (Michelle) Hintz and Gene Hintz; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one brother, Frank (Barb) Mastel; three sisters, Clara Anheller, Charlotte Lee and Connie (Stan) Weiss as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Anna Mastel; her husband Bernhard on December 31, 1996; son-in-law, Bobby Ray Smiley; great granddaughter, Sarah Paige Fournier; four brothers, William, Maynard, Bernard and George; sister-in-law Shirley; brothers-in-law; Neil Lee and Dale Anheller; God parents, Maynard Mastel and Lowney Seifert. 1945 – BOB MARTIN – 2022

Robert “Bob” Eric Martin passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022 at the age of 76 years, beloved husband of Linda Martin of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory two children, Natalie (Chad) Klein and Curtis Martin (Sheila Hawkins) and their son Hunter; his sister Grace (Larry) McIntosh, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Edith and Wilson Martin. Bob grew up in Kenaston, Saskatchewan, the youngest of seven siblings. At the age of 16, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces. After completing basic training he was posted to Germany, Dundurn, Saskatchewan and Wainwright, Alberta. He completed his military career in 1988, at CFB Suffield, Alberta, as a Chief Warrant Officer, after which, he remained as a civilian with DRES until 2010. After returning from Germany, he met Linda who became his wife and mother of his children. In 2015, Bob became a grandfather to Hunter, the apple of Papas eye. Bob would like to say farewell to the many friends and family he shared his life with. 1947 – MELVIN HITTEL – 2021

Melvin Bernard Hittel passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the age of 74 years, beloved husband of Brenda Hittel of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory two children, Melanie (Kelly) Robb and Stacy Hittel; four grandchildren, Brennan Robb, Meagan Robb, Kinley Hittel and Jase Hittel; three brothers, Ernie (Joan) Hittel, Ken (Elaine) Hittel and Tim (Karen) Hittel; his mother-in-law Verna Bischoff; brothers and sisters-in-law, Les (Bev) Bischoff, Wanda Munro, Murray (Connie) Bischoff and Blanche (Lorry) Bakke as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Joseph Hittel; his father-in-law Jack Bischoff and one sister in infancy Janice Rose Hitttel. KENNETH McDOUGALL

February 26, 1948 – March 10, 2022

Ken transitioned peacefully with his family by his side. He was a devoted husband to Linay and loving father to Michelle and Matthew. He will forever be remembered as Papa by Jack, Emma, Tavin (Coen) and James, Easton, Chloe, Max (McDougall). Ken was a cherished father-in-law to Mark and Christina. He is predeceased by his parents, James and Florence and his sister, Jessie. Ken is survived by his adoring siblings, Edith, Jim, Dan, Lynn, Marilyn and Heather. He will be missed by his faithful companion, Pepsi, who never left his side.

As the baby of a family of eight, Ken was deeply loved and was known for his contagious smile, his boisterous laugh and mischievous nature. Growing up in Calgary, Ken learned the value of hard work from his parents. While working, he met the love of his life, Linay and the two of them would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary this summer.

After graduating from the U of C, Ken began his career as a teacher in Airdrie then moved his family to Medicine Hat where he taught for 27 years at CHHS. He was known by many of his students as their favourite teacher, as he was respectful to all and was passionate about helping them to succeed.

You could always find Ken tinkering in the garage working on restoring his father’s Hornet, putting the final touches on his Rat Rod or going to the Wednesday night Show and Shine. He enjoyed spending time golfing and playing hockey with his many friends. His adventurous spirit had him travelling on his motorcycle, as well as a few big trips to Europe. Ken was also a lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

To know Ken meant you were connected to him. He was an authentic, genuine person who brightened the day of everyone he met. His smile, his heart, his intention and connections did certainly light up a room and draw people in. He meant so much to so many.

PHYLLIS LANZ

1933 – 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Phyllis Lanz announce her passing on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at the age of 82 years. Along with her beloved husband, John, Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory: two children, Jaylene (Doug) Pierce and Troy (Sandra) Lanz; four grandchildren, Ryan Aasman (Kait Fox), Jayna Aasman (Ryan Squires), Tania Lanz and Tyson Lanz as well as two sisters, Eileen (Cyril) Brachonnier and Kathleen (Bob) Fuller. She was predeceased by her parents, Katherine and Jacob Rath; four sisters, Adeline, Annie, Elma and Lorraine; two brothers, Art and Jimmy; son-in-law, Tony Aasman; John’s eleven siblings and in-laws as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John and Phyllis were married for 62 years and deeply loved each other. Phyllis’ world revolved around her friends and family, especially her four grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Phyllis’ favourite way to spend her day was watching sports, especially curling and hockey. She enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, watching game shows, shopping on the shopping channel and cooking and baking for her loved ones. Phyllis will be deeply missed by her friends and family and everyone who loves her will miss that contagious laugh of hers.
