https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The federal Conservative Party leadership contest is arriving in Medicine Hat next month. Candidate Pierre Poilievre will be in the city on April 11 for a fundraising diner arranged by the constituency association for Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner MP Glen Motz. The proceeds from the $200 per seat diner at the Cypress Centre on the Medicine Hat Stampede grounds will be retained by the local association, but donations to the Ottawa-area MP’s leadership campaign will also be collected. The party’s former finance critic, who attended the University of Calgary, was the first to publicly announce a bid following the removal of former leader Erin O’Toole last month. Former leadership contender Leslyn Lewis announced this week she would join the race. It’s speculated that former federal Progressive Conservative leader and Quebec premier Jean Charest will announce his intentions this week at an event in Calgary. Rules for the contest were released on March 8. To be eligible to vote in the contest, a person must be a party member as of June 3, though the date of the vote is still to be determined. That would likely take place in late July or early August as the party has announced a new leader would be in place by Sept. 10. Leadership candidates are required to arrange their $200,000 fee by April 29. 11
