Ringette Roundup: U12 Surge finish season over weekend

The U12 Surge hosted the Lethbridge Rattlers at the Kinplex this weekend.

The Surge dropped both afternoon contests against the Rattlers, losing 6-2 and 8-2. They have three more practices scheduled for their season.

U14

The Impact travelled to Rockyford Saturday for their final provincial playdown game.

The Impact came out strong and scored two quick goals to open up a must-win game en route an 8-1 victory over the Northwest Adrenaline.

Jordy Provost led the Impact offensively with five goals and one assist. Ryleigh Jackiw had a goal and an assist and Kensie Provost and Maren Berstad added a goal each.

Leighton Wright had five assists and Ava Allchurch also added an assist to the offence.

Saide Berstad made some key saves in the game between the pipes.

The Impact finished provincial playdowns with a record of 3-1, and clinched a spot in provincials. They plan to practise in the weeks leading up to provincials in Beaumont, the weekend of Mar. 25.

U16

The U16 Goal Diggers punched their ticket to provincials Sunday by dismantling the Bowview Ballistic 10-1 at the Kinplex.

Grace Ammann led the offence with four points. Hannah Thompson had three goals, Brooklyn Schlenker and Avery Weisgerber each had two goals in the win.

Mackenzie Tindall and Bella Heinrichs also scored.

The Goal Diggers are off until March 18, when they travel to Westlock for a 12-team tournament.

U19

The U19B Mavens had their third provincial playdown Sunday at the Kinplex and tied the Calgary Northwest Heat 3-3

Mavens goalie Abby Guest was strong in net and turned aside a penalty shot in the tie.

Leah Mason, Raynah Gibney and Callie Johnson all scored for the Mavens.

The Mavens have one round-robin game left to determine where they stand for the provincial championships.

That game is Saturday in Strathmore against the Calgary NW Odyssey.

The U19A Gators competed in the Alberta Provincial Championship in Calgary over the weekend.

The Gators took their first game against the Airdrie Chaos by a score of 5-3.

Dimitria Karamanos, Marley Rose, Bree Becker, Marin Sinclair and Joren Gramlich all scored for the Gators in the opening win.

Kylie Kallenberger and Preslee Starner each had a hat trick against Sherwood Park but the Gators fell 7-6.

The Gators dropped their next three games on Saturday, 8-5 to the Calgary NW Titans, 6-5 to the Beaumont Rush and 3-2 against the Calgary BowView Aces.

Scoring in the first loss was Amanda Robinson, Kayla Robinson, Starner, Sydney Anderson and Joren Gramlich.

Karamanos had two goals against the Titans, while Joren Gramlich, Marin Sinclair and Allison Mason each added one.

Marin Sinclair scored both Gator goals in the loss and Rheagyn Heinrichs was in net for all five games.

The Gators came up short of bringing home a medal and their season has come to a close.

Open

The Medicine Hat Ringette Association’s Open B division team, the Smash, is hosting the 2022 Open B Provincials this weekend at the Kinplex.

The Smash will be defending their provincials title won in 2019, as there hasn’t been a provincials since.

Round robin play is Friday evening and all day Saturday. Crossover games will be played on Sunday, as well as the finals. Play starts Friday at 5:15 p.m. with the Smash going up against FSU (CORA).
