cgallant@medicinehatnews.com@CollinGallant A new oilfield and general site reclamation company is expanding into southeast Alberta, with plans to add staff after buying out the well-site closure wing of an established company. Calgary-based 360 Energy Liability Management announced March 1 it had acquired the environmental consulting unit from an unnamed publicly traded company. That will expand branches and offerings in Calgary and Medicine Hat. As economic life for wells end in mature fields, and with greater focus across the environmental stewardship and responsibility among oilfield financiers, the company’s principles see busy times ahead. “The inventory of sites that exist in southeastern Alberta, everyone can appreciate that it’s very high,” said 360’s CEO Ryan Smith. “We assist the producers and the industry and the public in taking sites to full closure. It’s an arc, and scope, and proximity to centres like Medicine Hat makes it a really exciting opportunity for us.” The name of the former owner was kept out of press releases as a condition of the sale, but the local business is located at an address on East Broadway Avenue in Redcliff. That was the former site of Secure Energy. Smith says all employees are being retained and the firm is now planning to bring on more as its business targets the region. “Our business has grown year over year for quite a while,” he said. “We think the climb opportunity is large and we’ll reinforce (the office) with local talent. We’re moving fairly fast, and a big part of our strategy is a local focus and interacting with communities where we operate.” Other areas of operation for 360 are mining, landfills, midstream oil and gas, and renewable power. 11
