Minor Hockey Roundup: Hounds Black end regular season with big win

The Medicine Hat Hounds Black U13 AA hockey team went 1-0-1 over the weekend, following up a 6-6 tie to the West Central Tigers on Saturday with a 13-6 win over the hometown rival Hounds Orange on Sunday.

Ilya Khazov led Saturday’s tie with a goal and two assists, while Everett Ward, Logan Neuls and Rhyder Arnold all finished with one of each.

George Maser and Trevin Ibach rounded out the scoring, and MacInnis Harvey-Zenk stopped 28 shots.

Khazov led Black again on Sunday with two goals and two assists, while Maser and Arnold each scored twice and added an assist. Neuls and Vann Boiteau both had a goal and two assists, Caleb Whyte-Duheme and Dane Freidt had one of each, and Carter Gilchrist, Cole Siewert and Kane Bishop rounded out the scoring.

Marshall Turned stopped 29 shots for the win.

Liam Green led the Hounds Orange with a hat trick and an assist, while Lucas Fischer had two goals, Myla Motz had a goal and an assist, and both Owen Fisher and Evander Leupold added two assists in the loss.

Bryden Tschritter stopped 26 shots in the Orange crease.

The Hounds Black finished second in the South Central Alberta Hockey League’s South Conference with a 16-12-2 record. The Hounds Orange settled for seventh with a record of 8-18-4.

U15 AAA boys

South East Athletic Club’s U15 AAA Tigers had the weekend off and will open their post-season run on Wednesday in Okotoks against the Oilers.

The Tigers finished the Alberta Elite Hockey League regular season with a record of 15-17-2, good enough for sixth in the South Division.

U15 AA boys

South East Athletic Club’s U15 AA Tigers went 2-2 in the SCAHL playoffs over the past week, opening with a 4-2 loss to the Okotoks Oilers Thursday, then defeating the Foothills Bisons 8-5 and the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-2 on Friday before falling 4-3 to the Taber Golden Suns on Saturday.

Leighton Verishine and Ty Wasyluk each had a goal and an assist in SEAC’s opening loss to Okotoks, while Kayne Wright stopped 33 shots.

Randen Collier powered the offence in Friday’s first win, scoring twice and adding an assist. Kingston Chisholm had two goals and an assist, Wasyluk had a goal and two helpers and Austin Murphy assisted on two. Ethan Hall, Brennan Finke and Parker Kienzle rounded out the scoring. Parker McLaughlin stopped 18 shots.

Owen Gustafson led the Tigers against Lethbridge with a goal and an assist, while Collier had two helpers. Verishine, Baker Thompson and Chisholm rounded out the scoring, while Wright stopped 21 shots for the win.

Chisholm scored twice in Saturday’s loss, while Verishine added SEAC’s third and Wright turned away 39 pucks.

U16 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U16 AA hockey team closed out the SCAHL regular season with a 7-6 loss to the Wheatland Raiders on Saturday.

Hayden Smith led the Hounds with a hat trick, while Treyson Girletz had a goal and two assists, and Drew Thompson and Blake Dosenberger added individual tallies.

Jerzy Walter stopped 15 of 20 shots through half the game before Merrick Kurpjuweit entered and turned away 9 of 11 down the stretch.

The Hounds finished sixth in the SCAHL’s non-Calgary division with a record of 8-23-1.

U18 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U18 AA boys hockey team picked up a 9-3 win over the Airdrie Lightning to close out the SCAHL’s regular season on Friday.

Kyle Woolridge powered the Hounds to victory with two goals and three assists. Joshua Drefs had two goals and one assist, Caleb Garrecht and Ty Flaig both scored twice and Brady Mahar added an individual tally.

Kaiden Morin stopped 28 shots for the win.

The Hounds finished third in the South Division with an 18-8-8 record.
