Local man, Red Deer woman charged after dangerous driving incident

A Medicine Hat man and Red Deer woman are facing several charges following a dangerous driving incident which took place Feb. 17.

At approximately 4 p.m. Feb. 17, Medicine Hat police observed a Jeep Compass travelling on Parkview Drive at speeds reaching 123 kilometres per hour. An officer initially pursued the vehicle in an attempt to apprehend the driver, however the chase was called off by the officer for fear of public safety.

A subsequent investigation, as well as information provided by the public, led police to a local hotel, where the vehicle was parked. A 37-year-old Medicine Hat man staying at the hotel was identified as the driver and following a search of his hotel room, he, as well as a 40-year-old Red Deer women who was sharing room, were arrested and taken into custody.

The driver is facing charges including dangerous driving, flight from police, possession of stolen property under $5,000, theft under $5,000, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, drug offences, possession of stolen identity document and breach of several court orders. The Red Deer woman also faces criminal charges for property crime and drug offences.
