Ringette Roundup: U19B Mavens split first provincial playdown games

By Medicine Hat News on March 2, 2022.

The U19B Mavens ringette team started its run for a provincial berth this weekend.

The Mavens travelled to Hussar Sunday to take on the Bowview Blaze and Bowview Edge.

Their first game against the Blaze was a close 7-6 loss. Raynah Gibney had four goals while Kylee Waldegger and Leah Jetter rounded out the scoring with one goal each. The Mavens tied up the game with a minute and a half left but had an unfortunate turn of events that led to the winning goal for the Blaze.

The Mavens took the second game against the Edge by a score of 5-3. Serina Grona, Gibney, Jetter and Waldegger all scored for the Mavens as Trinity Wikjord also found the back of the net with her first goal of the season in the win.

The Mavens have one game this weekend as they host the Calgary NW Heat Sunday at the Kinplex for an 11:45 a.m. contest.

The U19A Gators are in Calgary this weekend for provincials. They play two games Friday, starting their day at 11:30 a.m. against Airdrie before taking on Sherwood Park at 2:30 p.m. Saturday they face the NW Titans at 10 a.m.

U14

The U14 Impact travelled to Calgary for their first weekend of provincial playdowns on Feb. 19. In the first game, the Impact played the Airdrie Heat and came out with a 4-3 win. Goals came from Ryleigh Jackiw with two, Ella Seale and Kenzie Provost each had one. Margot Kerr had two assists and Ava Allchurch and Jordy Provost each had a helper.

In the second game of the day, the Impact came out strong and won 8-5 over the Bowview Clash. Jackiw and Jordy Provost led the way offensively with two goals each, as Leighton Wright, Maren Berstad, Sutton Provost and Erika Want had a goal each.

This past weekend, the Impact hosted the Indus Lightning for their third playoff game. The Lightning finished at the top of the league standings. The Impact dug deep but couldn’t find a way to get the ring past the hot goalie, losing 7-6. Again, Jordy Provost and Jackiw each had two goals and Kerr and Wright each added one.

The Impact travel to Rockyford on Saturday to play their final game of play downs. They look to punch their ticket to provincials with a victory.
