Farming Smarter 2022 Conference and Trade Show is back once again for an in-person event taking place Feb. 16-17 at the Sandman Signature Lethbridge Lodge.
After having to move the event into an online format in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2021 Farming Smarter decided to push their 2021 event which would have taken place in early December, to February 2022.
“The Farming Smarter Conference transitioned its name in 2012. We amalgamated previous organizations and one was the southern Alberta Conservation Association which began this event back in the early 1990s… and we’ve just been continuing it on every year since,” said Jamie Puchinger, assistant manager with Farming Smarter.
She said this year the conference has a variety of speakers on different topics all agriculture related.
“We have two keynote speakers, one is Jack Butler from Texas, and he’s gonna talk about building an effective multi-generational workplace, and Kim McConnell is gonna talk about elevating our industry and how to bring in more diverse people and encourage women and younger people to get involved in agriculture,” said Puchinger.
She said they will also offer presentations from Farming Smarter staff on different projects they have been working on including precision planting, hemp and soil moisture.
“Part of this event is we’ve always supported 4-H so we include 4-H speakers after our lunch each day, and they’re local kids that participate in different 4-H clubs across southern Alberta,” said Puchinger.
She said they will host an auction in conjunction to the event, to help raise money to go towards South Region Alberta 4-H programs including their speaking and judging, and consumer decision making workshops.
“This year the online auction will be hosted through Perlich Brothers and anybody can go onto their website and start bidding on Monday, but the items are already open for viewing. Bidding will close on Thursday after the 4-H kids are done with their presentations at 1:30 p.m.,” said Puchinger.
Their online auction can be found at https://perlich.auction/auction/?id=990
