Med Hat boxing hosting provincial championship this weekend

By James Tubb on February 11, 2022.

The Medicine Hat Boxing Club is hosting the Alberta Provincial Championships and Nieman/Page Memorial tournament this weekend.

MH Boxing will have nine boxers competing in the shows at the Home Stay Inn on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at noon.

Coach Kerry Fahlman says he is looking forward to seeing all his boxers fight, and that he likes doing shows in the Hat.

“I always like to do the home shows and let them fight in front of friends and family,” Fahlman said. “A lot of them get nervous, too, boxing in front of their own fans.”

Anyone is able to watch the shows over the weekend and support local boxers.

Last weekend the Med Hat club Bronze Gloves competed in Calgary. On Saturday MHBC’s Kade Linford lost to Tavis Henry from Saskatoon and on Sunday he defeated Amir Ehsan from Lethbridge to win bronze.

Nate Vossler from MHBC stopped Eshaan Sran from Olympus Calgary in the second round to win gold Saturday.

Porter Ostrowski defeated Kysen Boothman from Lloydminster on Saturday and lost to Chase Hayden from Dynamite Calgary to win silver the next day.

On Saturday Mitch Heller MHBC/Badlands defeated Brodie Knight from Lethbridge and followed that up by beating Jose Guardia from Goldenstars Calgary to win Gold. Heller was named best boxer of the tournament and was awarded the Bronze Boy award.

Terrance Ostrowski MHBC lost to Kayden Giroux from Wolfhouse Edmonton on Saturday and Jacob Walne from MHBC lost to R.J.Ford from Wolfhouse Edmonton Sunday.
