1923 – LILLIAN IRENE BURKART – 2021 Lillian Irene Burkart of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully on December 30th, 2021 at the age of 98 years. Born to Philip and Anna Ehnisz in a Burstall, SK farmhouse, she was the sixth child in a family of 12 children. She leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Ken (Yvonne) and Dale (Robbi); five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Viola Deering; as well as numerous nieces and nephews Lillian was pre-deceased by her husband, Herbert, in 2002. Lillian married Herbert Burkart in 1942 and together they farmed near Linacre, SK. In 1946, they left farming so Herb could attend Bible School to prepare for ministry. After completing his training, they lived in Medicine Hat until 1956 where they did part-time itinerant ministry. From 1956 to 1980 they were in full-time pastorates in Macoun, Lipton, Sask. and Winnipeg, Man. Lillian was an ideal pastor’s wife- teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, entertaining graciously and encouraging people. People responded to her kindness and loved her. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was a blessing to her family. She was very proud of her family and spoke only positively about her siblings and children. Lillian had many hobbies related to knitting and handwork which she did with care and skill. Lillian spent her final years in the retirement facilities of Chinook Village and Masterpiece Southland Meadows. 1936 ~ EVELYN HERTER ~ 2022 Evelyn Herter of Medicine Hat, passed away on Sunday, January 2nd, 2022 at the age of 85 years. Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory her children, Lyle Herter and Leila (Blaine) Schafer; grandchildren, Kimberly (Kerry) Widmer and Kallen Schafer, all of Medicine Hat, AB. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Herter on June 2, 2020. Evelyn was born on September 2, 1936 near Golden Prairie, SK. As a family we all resided in Medicine Hat, AB. We would like to thank Laurie and all the nurses on 4W at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for the excellent care of our mom. 1936 ~ JOYCE HILLIS ~ 2022 Joyce Annie Hillis, November 14, 1936 – January 2, 2022, grew up in Saltcoats, attending school and later worked as a telephone operator. She married Lyle and was the proud mother of five children – Rick, Doug, Shelley, Brian, Karen. A hard worker, Joyce gave love to so many. She loved her gardens, beautiful flowers, and baking. Always plenty of food and room for one more, Joyce made everyone feel a part of the family. Joyce enjoyed living in different communities, including Aneroid, Gull Lake, Moose Jaw and Prince Albert. In 1997 Joyce returned to Saltcoats with Lyle, enjoying 13 years with her mother, family, and friends. Later moving to Medicine Hat, she relished time with family, and watching great grandchildrens’ activities. Joyce played softball, curling, golf, and skied. A caring, kind, and nurturing woman, Joyce lovingly provided the glue and stability for family. She kept abreast of everyone, regardless how far across the globe they were, and worried about them all. Joyce was a community contributor; her service with Royal Purple, the church, and those who were ill, was tireless. She liked a clean house and had a great sense of humour. Joyce enjoyed their winter trips down south, along with fishing and camping. And she loved the queen and royal family, receiving a letter from Princess Anne complementing her on her scones. Due to failing health Joyce moved into a care home, continuing to receive love and support from family and friends. Bingo, walks, visits, and companionship of sister-in-law Lynn were the highlights of her days. Joyce is lovingly remembered by her husband Lyle, children Doug (Karen; children Kit, Katie and Mitch), Shelley (Joe; children Amanda and Carrie Anne), Brian (Kate) and Karen (Colin; children Finn and Lilly), and 5 great grandchildren. Surviving Joyce are brothers Jim (Kathy) and Delmar (Sheryl), numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. Joyce was predeceased by her son Rick (surviving children Cullen and Cassidy); mother Dorrie and father Luke; and other family members. 1944 ~ JOHANNE GAETZ ~ 2021 Johanne Elizabeth Gaetz of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of Leo Gaetz, passed away on Wednesday, December 29th, 2021 at the age of 77 years. She also leaves to cherish her memory her children, Murray Gaetz and Kayley (Trent) Samoil; grandchildren, Parker Samoil and Chynna (Rhys Fingas) Samoil; brother, Clarence Tell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Johanne was predeceased by her parents, Jozef and Kathleen Tell. Johanne was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved the outdoors and was enthusiastic about the times she could spend camping with her family. She had many talents and enjoyed various crafts and liked interior design. Johanne lived her life according to her Christian faith and values and was a devoted supporter of St. Thérèse and the mission of the Society of the Little Flower of Jesus. 1949 ~ PATRICIA FAIRFIELD ~ 2021 Patricia Jane Marie Fairfield of Medicine Hat passed away on Friday, December 31st, 2021 at the age of 72 years. Patricia leaves to cherish her memory her children, Leanne (Kelvin) Blatz, Keri Job and Andrea (Bobby) Burnett; grandchildren, Sydney, Kaylee, Cherise, Dawson, Kiara, Harmony, Atayah; great-grandchild, Rhian; sister, Joanne Baxter; incredibly special dog, “Bernie”; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Patricia was predeceased by her parents, Lorne and Marguerite Fairfield; son, Wesley Burnett; brother, Paul Fairfield; and sister, Eileen Fairfield. Patricia was born on November 4th, 1949. She grew up an “Army Bratt” – and as such, travelled and lived in many different places within Canada. She attended nursing school and dedicated many years of her career as an LPN working with Alzheimer’s patients. Patricia was steadfast in her faith and her church. She was a committed homemaker and was devoted to her family. She was immensely proud of her children and her grandchildren; doted on her “fur babies”; and will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. 1951 – JOHN A. HOFER – 2021 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John A. Hofer of Boxelder, at the age of 70 years. A loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and a special friend to many. He was taken into the loving arms of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ whom he had a deep relationship with and was his dearest and nearest friend. He was the first he worshipped every morning and praised every evening. John was hog manager for 25 years then he became gardener and German school teacher for 22 years, His highlight was working with the bees and in the meat shop.
John will be greatly missed by the love of his life Annie. They were married for 48 wonderful years. Together God blessed them with three daughters, Rosa (Jerrylee) of Grandview, Marilyn (Rev. James) of Mayfield, Edna (Joseph) of Viking; nine grandchildren; seven sisters, seven brothers and a very close nephew Mark (Edna) of Boxelder. John was predeceased by his parents and in-laws, a granddaughter Sierra, two brothers, two sisters and three brothers-in-law.

1952 – BRUCE KRUTZLER – 2022 Bruce Calvin Krutzler of Medicine Hat, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at the age of 69 years, beloved husband of the late Bernadette “Bernie” Krutzler. Due to the restrictions brought forward by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, indoor public gatherings are to be kept to 50 people therefore a private family service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant Pat Grisonich. DARRYL WHITTLETON September 2, 1967 ~ December 28, 2021 Mr. Darryl Stanley Whittleton passed away in Redcliff, AB., on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the age of 54 years. Darryl was born on, September 2, 1967, at the Royal Alexander Hospital in Edmonton, AB., where he lived with his mom, dad and younger brother until the age of four years. The family then moved to Kinistino, SK., briefly before moving to Prince Albert, SK., where he grew up and attended school. Darryl met the love of his life, Marnie Nyland and had two children, Trevor and Kristen. In 1989, Darryl became an apprentice in Heavy Duty Mechanics and in 2001, relocated to Medicine Hat with his family where he continued his career with Summit Motors as a Journeyman Mechanic until his passing. Darryl loved tinkering in his garage on the classic car he won, his truck, motorbike and anything else he could get his hands on. He was a jack-of-all trades. Darryl truly enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, hunting, fishing or going for a good scenic truck drive or motorbike ride. Darryl loved all his family and friends and was there for anyone who needed help. He was proud of what he had accomplished in his life. Darryl was a solid man with a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by so many. We Love You! Darryl’s memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of his children, Kristen (Justin) Allen, Trevor Whittleton, step-daughter, Tenille Ruel; grandchildren, Kaidyn Allen and Keara Allen; brother, Murray (Rita) Whittleton and their three children, Tyler, Brad and Natalia Chahoyer. DIXON In Memory of a dearly loved brother P. Kirk Dixon who was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta; grew up in Ottawa, Ontario; graduated from University of Waterloo with a degree in Computer Sciences and lived and worked In Toronto and area, developing and leading a very successful international data management software company.
Kirk died in hospital in Barrie, Ontario on December 5, 2021, 1 day after his 65th birthday. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him. Remember by Christina Rossetti Remember me when I am gone away,
