1928 ~ IRMARD NICKEL ~ 2021
Irmgard “Irma” Nickel of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of Ernst “Ernie” Nickel passed away on Thursday, December 23rd, 2021 at the age of 93 years. She also leaves to cherish her memory her five children, Arnie (Gladys) Nickel, Linda (Jim) Spear, Irvin (Irmie) Nickel, Trudy (Bob) Reimer, and Debbie (Mark) Penner; as well as their families. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, on Friday, December 31st, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Crestwood Mennonite Brethren Church, 2348 Dunmore Road SE, MEDICINE HAT, AB T1A 2A2 on Saturday, January 1st, 2022 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Art Hildebrand officiating. 1937 ~ NAOMI McCRACKEN ~ 2021
Mrs. Naomi R. V. McCracken passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021, in Medicine Hat, at the age of 84 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Roy McCracken. Naomi leaves to cherish her daughter, Marcella (Larry) Morisseau; son, Broderick (Nancy); grandchildren, Alisha (Ryan) Henderson, Cameron (Amourin) Morisseau, Dalton (Abby), Tess and Kyra McCracken; great-grandchildren, Emma, Kaiden and Oliver; sister, Isabel Stripling; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Naomi was predeceased by husband, Roy; by son, Robin; parents, Ottilia and Fredrick Schaufele; siblings, Emanuel, Leonard, and Lenora. Naomi was born in Medicine Hat on July 6, 1937. She received her primary education in Schuler, then later on, at Alexandra School. Naomi was first employed at Medicine Hat Greenhouses, working in the mums and roses. In Medicine Hat she met and then married Roy in 1955. During their 58 years together they enjoyed camping, fishing, the Horticultural Society, and playing cards. Naomi was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church for 70 years, and was very active with the church choir. In 1971, Roy and Naomi started Roy McCracken Plumbing and Heating. During this time Naomi was also busy baking, gardening, quilting, and volunteering. She was a cheerleader for all her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities. Naomi was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and Gigi. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. The Funeral Service will take place at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 758 8th Street SE, Medicine Hat, on Thursday, December 30th, 2021, at 2:00 pm. Due to current Covid 19 restrictions attendance is by invitation only. A private interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to participate via livestream on youtube.com and searching St. Peter Lutheran Church Medicine Hat at 1:50 pm. 1943 ~ HOWARD WIDMER ~ 2021
Howard Andrew Widmer passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the age of 78 years, beloved husband of Darlene Widmer of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory three children, Deanna (Raymond) Ries, Colleen (Derek) Herter, Kerry (Kim) Widmer; three grandchildren, Brett (Tiffany) Ries, Kyle Herter (Rachel Hurley) and Mitchell Herter; two great grandchildren Lily Ries and Cooper Ries; one brother Lynn Widmer as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Freida and Alfred Widmer. Howard grew up on the family farm near Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan. He farmed along side his dad until 1965, when he and his wife Darlene took over the farm. Farming was Howard’s life work and was his career until retirement in 2004. Howard enjoyed fishing, camping, curling and being in the outdoors with family and friends. Always quick with a friendly smile and handshake, Howard will be remembered as a good friend, proud farmer and dedicated family man. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Medicine Hat Hospital 5E and thank you to the staff at Masterpiece Southland Meadows for the special care provided to Howard. A private family funeral service by invitation only will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. Due to the restrictions brought forward by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, indoor public gatherings are to be kept to 50 people. Masks are mandatory. The service will be live streamed, and family and friends who are unable to attend are invited to watch the service by searching for the Pattison Funeral Home Youtube page. The video will go live 10 minutes prior to service time and will remain on the youtube page for future viewing. A private family interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
