https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews Without an above-average snowpack on the prairies, the water supply in southern Saskatchewan will be constrained again in 2022, the Saskatchewan Water Authority stated this week in its initial spring outlook. “Exceptional drought conditions” remain in place from Leader south to Montana after an extremely dry summer and fall in 2021. Areas in that band – running southwest from Saskatoon – saw less than half the average rainfall over the summer compared to the long-term trends. The report states that most large water reservoirs are considered to have adequate supply, smaller users with dugouts could see supply and quality risks in 2022. Supply risk is greatest between Saskatoon to Leader, but the entire southern expanse of the province is considered at elevated risk. The long-term weather outlook generally predicts average precipitation over the winter months and cooler than average temperatures. HALO grant The County of Newell will provide a $50,000 grant to HALO air rescue society, its council approved at a meeting on Dec. 23. That’s an increase from $7,500 it previously provided in a grant worth $1 per capita in the region surrounding Brooks, but only one third of the request from the non-profit air ambulance provider. It had sought a commitment of $150,000 per year for the next three years. Elks conference Brooks will host the 2022 conference of Alberta Elks Associations on June 2-4, Lodge No. 77, that city has announced. The meeting of the service club representatives will include eight branches of Elks for British Columbia. Delegates could total 130 at meetings scheduled to be held at the JBS Centre. 14
