Panthers reach podium at pair of track meets

The Medicine Hat Panthers participated in two track meets over the last month.

On Nov. 28, the Panthers took part in the ‘Last Chance meet,’ in Edmonton.

Zaynna Willoughby participated in three races at the U16 level, finishing second place of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.08 seconds. Willoughby also finished third in the 300-metre and fourth in the 60-metre dash.

Tristan Friesen took first place in shot put with a distance of 14.56 metres, and also finished first in the weighted throw with a distance of 14.33 at the U18 level.

Riley Friesen competed alongside Tristan and finished third in the shot put competition and second in the weighted throw event.

The Panthers next event was the Dino Opener in Calgary on Dec. 5.

Father-son duo Darryl and Gage Smith competed in the 600m and 1000m races in the open division. Gage finished eighth in the 600 with a time of 1:43.74 and Darryl placed right behind him in ninth. Gage finished ahead in the 1000m as well, taking 10th place with a time of 3:07.63. Darryl finished in 13th, only 11 seconds behind Gage.

Tristan Scrimger took part in the men’s aged 15 division and finished sixth in the 60m dash and fourth in the 300.

Edward Hicks took part in the men’s aged 14 races and won the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.72. He placed third in the 60m dash and fourth in the 300m race.

On the girls side, Willoughby competed at the age 15 level and took second in both the 60m hurdles and the 300m race. She also had a third-place finish in the 60m dash.

Adriene Campbell competed in the 13-year-old division and finished first in the 60m hurdles and fourth in the 60m dash.

Emma Agar-Weninger had a second-place finish in the 11-year-old’s 400m race. She also finished fourth in the 150m and had an eighth-place finish in the 60m dash.

The Panthers return to the track for the Jack Simpson Open on Jan. 9th in Calgary.
