MHPS hiring 10 new constables to deal with void left by retirees

By Medicine Hat News on December 2, 2021.

The Medicine Hat Police Service is looking to hire 10 new constables next year. Applications opened Tuesday and the deadline is March 11.

“We have a number of members that are going to be retiring, so our numbers will be lower and we’ll have the ability to hire new officers,” Const. Kinsi Steiger told the News. “(Ideal candidates) would need to make effective decisions in stressful situations. They would need to mirror our core values at MHPS, which is integrity, respect, accountability and courage.”

Steiger encourages anyone with questions to register for a virtual information session being held on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

“We will be going into detail every step of the process and the application process and what that looks like, so I’d encourage anyone that’s interested to join that session,” she said.

Applications are open to citizens of Canada or permanent residents 18 years of age or older, who have no criminal record, have completed high school and have a valid motor vehicle licence. More information can be found on the MHPS website.
