jtubb@medicinehatnews.com@ReporterTubb The Southern Express U15 AA girls hockey team swept a two-game weekend to get their first wins of the young season. On Saturday the Express beat the Olds Grizzlys on the road 4-1. Keira Grant and Julie Barlow got the Express on the board with a 2-1 lead in the first period. Cambelle Gross added to their lead on a second-period power play and Medicine Hat’s Jayda Becker scored in the third to give the Express the 4-1 win. Medicine Hat product Taya Christie stopped 24 of the 25 shots she faced in net for the win. The Express carried the momentum into Sunday, as they beat the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs 9-0. The Gas City was well represented in the win as Becker had a hat trick and Hatter Jailyn Painter scored her first of the season in the blowout. The Express are in action again this weekend when they take on the Calgary Fire Friday in Lethbridge, before a rematch with Red Deer Sunday at Co-op Place. Puck drops Sunday at 2:30 p.m. 7
