Three men have been charged after a fight between them on a downtown street put two of them in hospital earlier this month.

Police say an argument broke out on the 300 block of Sixth Avenue downtown at about 11 p.m. on Nov. 7 and “several” weapons were produced as it escalated.

By the time police arrived, they found two men had suffered “significant injuries” that required medical attention.

Nathan Wiens, 26, and Wilson Thorn, 23, are each charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and possessing a dangerous weapon.

Brendon Webb, 29, faces a charge of assault causing bodily harm.

All three have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court.

Fire at standoff site

About 24 hours after a police standoff ended at a home near downtown, fire crews extinguished a fire at the location Thursday night.

Medicine Hat police are investigating a connection between the two incidents.

Officers executed a search warrant at the address on the 100 block of First Street SW, on the afternoon of Nov. 17, looking for stolen goods and weapons as part of an investigation. After several people exited, police determined one man remained and the tactical team and negotiators were brought in. After several hours the 39-year-old man exited the building and was taken into custody.

He was not named, as expected weapons and property crime charges had not been formally laid.

On Nov. 19, Medicine Hat Fire Service attended the same address and contained a fire within the residence.
