Fire at standoff site About 24 hours after a police standoff ended at a home near downtown, fire crews extinguished a fire at the location Thursday night. Medicine Hat police are investigating a connection between the two incidents. Officers executed a search warrant at the address on the 100 block of First Street SW, on the afternoon of Nov. 17, looking for stolen goods and weapons as part of an investigation. After several people exited, police determined one man remained and the tactical team and negotiators were brought in. After several hours the 39-year-old man exited the building and was taken into custody. He was not named, as expected weapons and property crime charges had not been formally laid. On Nov. 19, Medicine Hat Fire Service attended the same address and contained a fire within the residence. 14
