https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Alberta Urban Municipalities Association has a new name and a new president as the group that lobbies the province on behalf of cities and towns concludes its annual convention this week.. Going forward it will call itself “Alberta Municipalities,” and new president Cathy Heron, the mayor of St. Albert, takes over from former Brooks Mayor Barry Morishita. He resigned the post this summer after announcing he would seek and was subsequently named the leader of the provincial Alberta Party, This week’s gathering in Edmonton drew about 1,000 members to the policy convention and trade show. It was the first in-person meeting for the group in two years and featured addresses by Premier Jason Kenney, opposition leader Rachel Notley and ministry officials. The City of Medicine Hat was represented by two delegates: Mayor Linnsie Clark and managing director of the utility and infrastructure division Brad Maynes. The latter was invited to take part in a panel discussion on budget execution in times of economic uncertainty. 7
