The Medicine Hat Tigers had some new threads Saturday night.

The Tabbies hung up their usual jerseys for one night to throw on the winning design from the CHL’s Leave Your Mark contest. Fans could submit jerseys designs and the winners had their submissions made and worn in a game. Medicine Hat wore the jerseys Saturday in their 4-2 loss to the Calgary Hitmen.

The CHL partnered up with Real Canadian Superstore for the contest, and after the game all of the jerseys were put up for auction with all proceeds going to the President’s Choice Children’s charity in the fight against child hunger.

Before the game, Tigers defenseman Dru Krebs said in a promotional video he was excited to wear the different jersey.

“We appreciate the jerseys we’ve had for such a long time but when you get to wear something new it’s a great part of junior hockey and it’s really a fun time for all the guys to wear them,” Krebs said.

Medicine Hat has been wearing their current jersey design since the 2009-10 season. Tigers sales and marketing manager Kiel Owen said in the same video that the team was happy to participate in the charitable action.

“Community is everything for the Medicine Hat Tigers and being able to work with a partner like this is, on an issue like this, is important to us and we’re just happy to be able to do what we can.”

Tigers head coach and general manager Willie Desjardins said the Tigers always look for chances to help the community when they can.

“It’s always important, our ownership’s really good at trying to do things for the community and to help out the community and I think we always look for opportunities where we can maybe contribute in some way,” he said.

The Tigers returned to their usual jerseys for a 4-3 overtime loss on the road Sunday, the second game of their home and home series with Calgary. The loss puts Medicine Hat on a seven-game losing slide.

Fans can bid on their favourite Tigers special jersey at 32auctions.com/MHT, with auctions open until 7 p.m. Wednesday.
