Noah Foss pulls up as multiple Stettler Wildcats defenders attack in the first quarter of the Crescent Heights Vikings provincials matchup on Saturday.
Crescent Heights led 13-0 at the half and held on to win their provincial playoff game against the Stettler Wild Cats 20-2 Saturday afternoon.
The first quarter went by quickly as neither the Wildcats or Vikings would score but traded chances. Crescent Heights recovered multiple fumbles but could not capitalize. As the quarter was wearing down, the Vikings mounted a drive that ended in an Abdul Kiawen touchdown. Kiawen’s score came as the quarter ended with the Vikings carrying a 7-0 lead over Stettler.
Crescent Heights picked up where they left off in the second as the Vikings continued to mount drives. Kiawen had a long run, midway through the quarter and made it to the end zone for a touchdown that was called back due to an off-side Viking. Crescent Heights would run the play back and Kiawen would redeem his team and score his second rushing TD of the game. The Vikings would miss the kick but would hold a 13-0 lead into half time.
Neither team scored in the third quarter as Stettler had a drive to end the frame that the Vikings stopped below the five yard line, to force a turnover on downs. Crescent Heights did take a knee in their end zone early in the fourth quarter to give Stettler their only two points on the game.
Kiawen scored his third TD of the game halfway through the final quarter to give the Vikings a final score of 20-2 as they secured the win with an interception as the clock hit zero.
With the win, the Vikings advance in their provincial playoffs as they’ll head to Cochrane next Saturday in their push to the provincial finals.
