Minor Hockey Roundup: U18 AA Hounds rally to victories over Foothills, Calgary

The Medicine Hat Hounds U18 AA picked up a pair of victories over the weekend, defeating the Foothills Bisons 8-0 at home on Friday before dealing the CRAA Gold a 3-1 loss in Calgary on Sunday.

Jackson Bowal led Friday’s offence with two goals and an assist. Kyle Woolridge, Zach Hauck and Joseph Hackett all added two assists, while Joshua Drefs, Kadin Pahl, Brady Mahar, Gavin Smith, Caleb Garrecht and Brennin Wereley had individual tallies to round out the scoring.

Tyler Wakelam stopped all 23 shots he faced for the shutout.

Bowall netted another in Sunday’s win, with Kayden King and Brady Mahar chipping in to seal the win.

Kadin Morin stopped 29 shots to push the Hounds to 6-0-2 on the South Central Alberta Hockey League season.

U16 AAA

The South East Athletic Club Tigers U16 AAA squad split a pair of games on the road this weekend, falling 4-2 to the Red Deer North Stars on Saturday and defeating the Airdrie-Cochrane Avalanche 3-1 on Sunday.

Benjamin Foss and Will Bell scored for Medicine Hat in Saturday’s loss, while Keegan Stenger stopped 27 shots in net.

Makhi Carriere, Jesse Klimosko and Austin Watts all scored in Sunday’s win, while Kaige Schafer turned away 30 shots to collect the victory and push SEAC to 1-4-0 on the Alberta Elite Hockey League season.

U16 AA

The Medicine Hat Hounds U16 AA squad dropped a pair of tough battles at home over the weekend, 6-3 to the Airdrie Havoc and 6-0 to Red Deer TBS.

Despite keeping themselves in a 3-3 tie after two periods in Friday’s battle against Airdrie, the Hounds were unable to turn the tables in their favour.

Adversity hit the Hounds (1-4-0) hard Saturday, with four defensive players missing from the lineup.

U15 AAA

The SEAC Tigers U15 AAA squad collected back-to-back victories in Calgary this weekend, 6-3 over the Royals and 5-1 over the Northstars.

Hudson Gainer scored twice, while Carter Allan and Grady Ford both netted three assists in Saturday’s win. Josiah Jackson, Ty Hynes, Kayden Yeaman and Colson Wereley had individual goals.

Kolter Gans stopped 28 shots in net.

Cole Fisher led Sunday’s offence with three goals, bolstered by individual tallies from Hynes and Wereley.

Gans stopped 21 for the win, pushing the Tigers to 4-3-1.

U15 AA

The SEAC Tigers U15 AA team managed to avoid a loss this weekend, beating the Oilers 6-3 Saturday in Okotoks before settling for a 2-2 against the Lethbridge Hurricanes at home on Sunday.

Austin Murphy scored twice Saturday, while Randen Collier, Leighton Verishine, Logan Weiss and Davin Torgerson added individual markers.

Parker McLaughlin stopped 29 shots for the win, then added 28 in Sunday’s tie.

Baker Thompson and Parker Kienzle scored for SEAC Sunday.

The Tigers sit atop the SCAHL’s South Conference standings at 5-2-1.

U13 AA

Medicine Hat’s U13 AA squads both went without a loss over the weekend.

The Hounds Black picked up a 5-0 victory over the Chestermere Lakers at home on Saturday, while the Hounds Orange drew even with the Lethbridge Hurricanes in a 3-3 tie Friday before defeating the Foothills Bisons 8-2 Saturday.

Myla Motz scored twice and Owen Fischer added another for Orange Friday, then Kian Lang led Saturday’s push with three goals. Lucas Fischer and Ethan Grad each had two, and Liam Green added an individual tally.

Caleb Matheson stopped 15 shots Friday, then Bryden Tschritter added 21 saves Saturday.

George Maser and Ilya Khazov led the Hounds Black with two goals and an assist each in Saturday’s win over Chestermere, while Rhyder Arnold rounded out the scoring.

Macinnis Harvey-Zenk turned away 18 shots for the shutout, padding Black’s South Conference lead at 6-1-0.

The Hounds Orange sit at 2-4-1.
