RCMP Briefs: Woman killed when van hit by train

A women is dead after the van she was riding in was struck by a train in Vulcan County on Monday.

The van was travelling on a township road south of the Village of Carmangay at about 10:30 a.m. when it was struck by a southbound Canadian Pacific train. The driver, a 52-year-old man, was taken to local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the 49-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene,

Collision analysts are continuing to investigate.

Missing cattle

Authorities in southwest Saskatchewan are looking for 12 black heifers missing from a pasture near Lac Pelletier, south of Swift Current.

The RCMP’s Livestock Services section say the yearlings are branded with a backward ‘L’ atop a quarter circle opening downwards. The animals went missing between Sept. 22 and Oct. 13. Anyone with information can contact their local RCMP detachment or the Livestock brand office at 306-546-5086.

School threat in Swift

The RCMP say they took a male into custody Friday after a report of potential threat and the lockdown of two of the city’s schools.

Swift Current Composite High School and O.M. Irwin, which is a K-8 facility, were put on alert just before 9 a.m. on Oct. 21. No charges were laid at the time of a press release later in the day, but authorities believe there was no further danger to the public.
