https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews City-sponsored vaccine clinics will take place this weekend at the Medicine Hat Mall, officials have announced. No appointment is needed, and everyone aged older than 12 in need of a first or second dose is encouraged to take part. “Vaccination rates continue to rise in our city and this is good news,” said Merrick Brown, the city’s director of emergency management. “Receiving your first and second dose will help keep everyone in our community safe.” The mobile clinic, held in a tour bus, is hosted by the “19 to Zero” coalition of public health professionals. The same group partnered with the city and Medicine Hat College to hold two local clinics last month. It will be open on Saturday, from noon to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the parking lot at the east entrance to the mall building, which faces Trans-Canada Way. Attendees are reminded to practice good hygiene while on site, wear a mask and bring pertinent information, such as an Alberta health-care card. Local schools on COVID alert Six Medicine Hat schools have been listed by Alberta Health Services as COVID alert locations. Alexandra Middle School, Crescent Heights High School, Ken Sauer School, Medicine Hat Christian School, Notre Dame Academy and River Heights Elementary are the schools listed within the municipality of Medicine Hat. Schools are listed as an alert when more than two cases have been reported. All six schools are listed with two to four reported cases. Flu shots Typical flu shots will be available for Albertans on Monday through public health clinics and pharmacies, AHS announced on Friday. Officials are stressing the importance of avoiding severe illness of any kind to avoid adding stress to the health-care system. There were no recorded cases or deaths linked to the flu last winter, but in the 2019-20 flu season, there were about 8,400 cases leading to 41 deaths. About one-third of Albertans receive a flu shot each year. 17
