U18 Hounds remain undefeated at 2-0-2

By James Tubb on October 12, 2021.

It was a good Thanksgiving weekend for the Medicine Hat U18 Hockey Hounds.

The AA Hounds faced off against the Foothills Bisons Friday for the second time in a week. After tying the Bisons last week, the Hounds came back hard to win 7-2.

Caleb Garrecht and Brayden Patey each scored twice, with Ty Flaig, Quin Lacher and Jackson Bowal rounding out the rest of the score sheet. Goalie Kaiden Morin stopped 16 shots, with the Hounds pouring 44 on the Bisons.

On Saturday, the Hounds faced the CNHA Black team and battled to a 4-4 tie in a nail-biting finish. At the end of the first period, the Hounds were down 2-0. Halfway through the second, Brady Mahar got them on the scoreboard only for CNHA to go ahead 3-1 two minutes later.

Five minutes into the third, CNHA scored again moving to a commanding 4-1 lead. But the persistent Hounds kept firing shots with Garrecht scoring at the 12-minute mark. Three minutes later, Patey added another to bring the game within one. As the clock counted down, Garrecht tied the game with seven seconds left to keep the Hounds undefeated on the season. Bowal contributed two assists and Morin saw 25 shots, while the Hounds put up 24 against CNHA.

The U18 AA Hounds now sit 2-0-2 on the season. They return to action with two games this weekend, both at the Kinplex. They host the Central Alberta Selects Friday at 7:45 p.m. and the Red Deer Elks Saturday at 8 p.m.
