Four new deaths were reported in southwest Saskatchewan in Tuesday’s COVID-19 update from that province’s health officials.

The health region that includes Maple Creek, Swift Current and surrounding rural areas also recorded 22 new infections and eight recoveries. That caused total active cases to again reach a new record high of 254 in the area that has an estimated population of 38,700.

The deaths bring the total to 21.

As of Tuesday there were 22 people in hospital, including five in intensive care.

Across Saskatchewan, active cases fell slightly though 449 new cases were reported across the province.

Sask. vaxx passport

A proof of vaccine program comes into “broad effect” on Oct. 1, the province affirmed on Tuesday.

It will apply to indoor dining, bars, entertainment venues, sports events and fitness facilities, as well as any private business that adopts the system.

Anyone attending such a business will be required to show vaccine cards given at time of inoculation, a government approved phone application, printouts available from the Sask. Health Authority.
