The program went into effect Friday at Co-op Place ahead of a game by the Medicine Hat Cubs and Saturday’s exhibition game involving the Medicine Hat Tigers. The requirement will go into effect at the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre as of Tuesday, Sept. 28, and the Family Leisure Centre and Kinplex Arenas on Friday, Oct. 1. The program will not be used at the Hockey Hounds Arena, though a city release states discussions with user groups is ongoing. Anyone over 12 years old and not part of a youth sports organization will be required to show an immunization record of receiving at minimum a first dose. That standard will be accepted until Oct. 25 at which time double vaccination becomes a requirement. Attendees can alternately show a negative test result from within the previous 72 hours or a medical exemption letter. All adults must also show valid, government issued ID. Masking and physical distancing requirements as required by the current provincial health order will be observed. Other facilities will operate at a reduced capacity. Training at Tepee The city’s high-elevation rescue crew will train at the Saamis Tepee on Monday, the Medicine Hat Fire Service has announce. The “technical rescue team” will climb and rappel from the 23-storey structure throughout the day beginning at 9 a.m. to practice rescue and extraction techniques. The area will remain open to the public, but some portions will be off-limits for safety purposes. Fall park prep Washroom facilities and kitchens at a number of city parks will close for the winter season on Friday, Oct. 1, the city’s parks department has announced. Those that will remain open are located at Echo Dale (Ajax building and boat lake), the Kin Coulee Toboggan Hill (washrooms), Police Point Park, the Saratoga Dog Park, Strathcona Island Park, Southridge Community Park, Veiner Centre, WestVue Dog Park (porta-potty), and at high board rinks in Eastglen, Riverside, Jeffries and Southlands. The Echo Dale swim centre and toboggan hill kitchen are available for rentals. 16
