LARRY JOHN HAMEL

January 22, 1943 – September 14, 2021

The story of his life may be over but his legacy will live on.
On September 14, 2021, Larry John Hamel closed his eyes and peacefully left this world.
He is survived by the love of his life for over 47 years Mardi. Their love was one that welcomed a family of four children, grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Larry’s life will live on in his children Scott (Janet), Troy, Christina Poirier and Kerri Sandford (Jeff). While his children captured his heart, his grandchildren were his treasures.
Sarah Loslo (Ian), Craig Poirier, Sheldon and Akacia Hamel, Jackson and Kendall Hamel, Charlatan and Bokken Sandford and great granddaughter Penelope Loslo will carry the memories of their Papa and lessons he taught them in only a way a grandfather could teach.
Larry was a man of few words but had a heart filled with love, devotion and pride for his family.
He loved history and there was never a day when he didn’t pick up one of his history books and read for hours on end. He always believed we could never move forward without knowing where we have been.
So many of the life lessons he taught his children and grandchildren came from his time in uniform as a young man who served his country. It was the love of his country that no matter where he travelled to, he proudly displayed the Canadian flag on every lapel and hat brim.
His time to stand guard is over and he is now flying free.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Bernice Hamel, brothers Cecil, Orval, Victor, Raymond and sisters Delein and Vernice.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held with a private gathering at a later date.

VICTORIA GAIR

1933 ~ 2021

Victoria Marie Gair (nee Rivard) died in Medicine Hat Sept. 9, 2021. Vic was a woman of beauty, class, charisma and a vibrant sense of humor. She was born June 21, 1933 into a very large, close-knit family, within which she would play a vital role as caregiver, protector, friend and leader – a relationship that held strong through the siblings for a lifetime. With Ken, her loving husband of 47 years, she shared countless adventures and successes. A remarkable team and couple, they are a shining example of true love and happiness. Vic’s mother’s heart took in many beloved children of all ages from newborn to 90, but the most cherished was her son, Ronald James Percy (1959-2016). Without doubt she is in his loving arms now as they are together again. Vic will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was drawn to people and they to her. She was a strong influential presence in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love, friendship and guidance will be cherished forever. Vic leaves behind her husband Ken, brothers Jean (Betty) and Glenn (Bev), granddaughters Candi Percy, Amy (Jesse) Finnerty, Amber and Andy Lundstrom, and great- grandchildren Syah Lamothe and Style, Tressie and Elder Finnerty, along with a large extended family. Due to recently implemented covid provincial restrictions, the service has been postponed to a later date.
