All lanes now closed for four weeks on S. Railway from Hill Road to Fifth

By Medicine Hat News on September 6, 2021.

A project to remediate an abandoned gas well near S. Railway Street, between Hill Road and Fifth Street SE, will now close to all lanes of traffic for approximately four weeks.

Work by Canadian Pacific Railway is occurring near the roadway, and safety considerations around the worksite require the road to be fully closed. The city originally expected to shut down all lanes as of Aug. 26 but were able to keep some traffic flowing until today.

More information on the project can be found under the “Alberta” tab at https://www.cpr.ca/en/community/rail-projects-near-you.

Heavy truck traffic will be detoured east down Maple/Allowance Avenue and River Road to the downtown. Passenger traffic will be directed through the Southeast Hill area.

Businesses adjacent to the work zone will remain open and accessible through temporary access only. Pedestrian access to the walkway along the east side of S. Railway Street will remain, and drivers are reminded to obey all construction signage and detours.
