A 23-year-old man accused of assaulting a police officer after a foot chase, and being in possession of a loaded .357 Magnum handgun has been released on bail.
Braudy Salas Solano, originally of Lethbridge, appeared by CCTV from the Edmonton Correctional Centre in Lethbridge provincial court on Wednesday.
Solano was granted his release on a $5,000 promise to pay no-cash bail after a Lethbridge woman agreed to act as his assurity. His release conditions also specified he must remain at the woman’s residence at all times except when accompanied by her. He would also be eligible to leave his residence unattended to vote and to attend court and any medical appointments as long as he informs his assurity of when he is leaving and when he is returning. He must also not be in possession of any weapons and keep the peace.
Lethbridge Police charged two Edmonton men with multiple offences and seized a loaded handgun after responding to a disturbance call on April 15 of this year.
Police responded at a home in the 200-block of 20 Street North. Two suspects had left the area by the time police arrived but were arrested after a short foot chase. One of them unsuccessfully attempted to disarm an officer of his pepper spray during a brief struggle.
Police located a loaded, .357 Magnum handgun nearby and also seized 5.5 grams of cocaine and $735 in cash as the proceeds of crime.
The accused is charged with two counts of assaulting an officer; one count of attempt to disarm an officer; mischief; and uttering threats. He also faces several additional charges including possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and illegal use of a firearm.
Solano is co-accused with George Ishiekwene, 25, who is charged with five weapons charges, including possession of a firearm obtained by a criminal offence; resisting arrest; possession for the purpose of trafficking; and possession of the proceeds of crime.
Solano will return to court on Sept. 10 to potentially set trial dates.
