Wes and Jean Bresee won their second consecutive pairs championship at the Medicine Hat Lawn Bowling Club this week.

Wes and Jean Bresee won their second straight H.J. Cove Memorial Trophy this week at the Medicine Hat Lawn Bowling Club.

The Bresee duo completed the run to back-to-back championships with a tense 7-6 victory over Barb and Curt Moll in the final.

Bill Cuthill and Joan Theriault earned the B side title with a 7-6 extra-end win over Frank Buck and Joyce-Ann Bacon, making up two in the final end before winning the Red Amos Trophy in an extra.

Yardstick Tournament

The local lawn bowling club held its Yardstick Tournament on Saturday, with Barb Moll and Allan Hunt taking home the literal hardware.

The tournament – in which all bowls within one yard of the jack count – featured three rounds of pairs, with individual scoring accumulated over the course of the day. Moll topped the women’s group with 68 points, while Hunt finished first in among the men with 69 points to earn a metre stick signed by all the day’s participants.

“No yard sticks at the stores in Canada,” Curt Moll pointed out in an email to the News.

Roz Fisher took second in the women’s group after defeating Jean Bresee in a 66-point tiebreaker, while Curt Moll, Wes Bresee and Frank Buck all finished with 59 points before placing second through fourth, respectively, following a three-way tiebreaker.
