The Medicine Hat Thunder are off to a hot start at the Softball Alberta U14B championships.
The host Thunder kicked off the tournament Friday morning at the Moose Community Ball Complex with a 7-2 victory over the Strathmore Thunder, then returned to the diamond that afternoon to defeat the Red Deer Rage 9-0.
The Thunder are back in action Saturday at 11 a.m. against the Lloydminster Liners before closing out the opening round at 5 p.m. against the Calgary West Hill Vipers.
The Liners dropped their opening game in a 13-12 barnburner against Calgary Adrenaline, while the Vipers kicked off their weekend with a 9-8 win over the St. Albert Angels.
Red Deer is 0-2 after dropping their opener, 17-7, to St. Albert.
The top four teams at the end of the opening round will advance to the championship round. A tiebreaker game is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday, if necessary.
Semifinal action gets going at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, followed by the championship and third-place games at 12:30 p.m.
