JBS giving free MHC tuition to qualifying team members, dependents

By Medicine Hat News on August 10, 2021.

JBS Brooks announced last week that it will be giving free Medicine Hat College tuition to qualifying team members and their dependents.

The program, JBS Better Futures, operates in partnership with MHC and aims to remove a financial barrier to post-secondary attendance. The program “stands to become the largest free community college tuition program supporting rural communities in North America,” according to a JBS release.

“Our partnership with Medicine Hat College is an investment in our team members, their children and our community,” JBS Foods Canada president David Colwell says in the release.

“By alleviating common obstacles to education, such as rising tuition costs, this program provides an invaluable learning opportunity for the next generation of students.”

The release adds that the program seeks to play a role in “sustainably building rural economies and making a lasting and meaningful difference in people’s lives.”

The first class of students in the program will be eligible to enrol in the upcoming school year.

“We applaud JBS for their vision and commitment to their community,” MHC president and CEO Kevin Shufflebotham says in the release.

“Medicine Hat College is proud to partner with and support JBS in their efforts of increasing access to education of their employees’ families through the Better Futures program.”
