FAME: Get inspired

By KAYLA REPAS on July 30, 2021.

Meet Erynn Biggar, FAME’s (Females in Action Moving and Empowering Committee) current Girls on the Move instructor.

Girls on the Move provides and opportunity for girls aged 7-12 to be physically active in an environment that is positive, barrier-free and exposes girls to new activities they may never have tried. Erynn is a huge advocate for women and girls in sport and recreation in Medicine Hat. If she is not leading Girls on the Move or teaching group fitness classes, she is outside (hiking, biking etc.) with her two daughters. She strives to encourage women of all ages to participate in physical activity, so they can lead happy healthy lives.

Here are some fun facts about Erynn:

Hometown: Morden, Manitoba

How long have you participated in sport, recreation, physical activity: All my life (Group Fitness Instructor 12 years)

Short-term goal: I have been leading the Girls on the Move program for a year now. My short-term goal is to establish trust, connection and continuity with the girls, so the program can continue to be successful, and the girls are excited to come every week.

Long-term goal: I would love to see the Girls on the Move program continue to grow and positively influence young females in our community. It is great seeing new faces in the program, and it is so beneficial to see girls come back, session after session. I love when the older girls can take on more leadership type roles to help with the younger or newer ones. I look forward to seeing that cycle as the girls grow up and new ones come in.

Your hero in life: I was incredibly lucky to have parents so involved in the community and encourage me in sport. Playing multiple sports at a time, mom and dad were always there!

Your motto in life: I am a big believer in Karma. Give out kindness / good vibes and it always comes back to you. If you have something nice to say, say it!

Your tip (inspiration to others): Treat people well, smile often and do your best, (realizing that your best might look different some days).

Highlight to date: Well, as a biased mother, I absolutely LOVE having my own daughters participate in the program. Watching them make new friends, having the confidence to try a new skill and feeling the security to be their silly selves.

The next Girls on the Move session is scheduled for fall 2022 – keep an eye out on our social media (Facebook – FAME Medicine Hat / Instagram – famemedhat). For more information, please contact Erynn at erynn@everactive.org
