Serina Nooitgedagt probably wishes the computer tablet she stole earlier this year had caller ID.
On March 16 Nooitgedagt stole the $200 tablet from the home of her partner’s mother. When the tablet’s owner called the device’s number, Nooitgedagt answered and was caught.
Nooitgedagt pleaded guilty last week in Lethbridge provincial court to one count of theft under $5,000 and was fined $500. She also pleaded guilty to one count of mischief causing damage and received a suspended sentence and 12 months of probation.
On May 13 the mother of Nooitgedagt’s partner arrived home and found Nooitgedagt inside. She told Nooitgedagt to leave, but she refused. During a pushing match Nooitgedagt grabbed the other woman’s glasses off her face and broke them.
During her term of probation, Nooitgedagt is not to have any contact with her victim and not go within 50 metres of her southside residence. She is, however, allowed access to her children who live with the other woman, as long as she is with her partner or another adult approved by the court.
Nooitgedagt, who appeared in court by CCTV from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, also faces numerous unrelated criminal charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, threats to cause death, assault with a weapon, using an imitation firearm, possession of stolen property, assault and assaulting a peace officer. She is scheduled to return to court this week.
