Hatters can walk through the Medicine Hat Farmers’ Market on Saturday, kicking off its 24th season at the Cypress Centre.
The market will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays through Oct. 2 this year.
“We’re really excited,” said Doreen Gunderson, market co-ordinator. “Much like last year, we will be set up with COVID restrictions until they’re lifted totally; we’re going to follow the guidelines. There will be sanitation spots set up, one-way traffic and it’s going to be good … we follow them to keep our vendors, customers and staff safe on our grounds.”
Gunderson says there are 53 vendors attending this weekend, some of the usual and some new. She says the market will have its faithful bakers, fresh produce, fruit, crafters, coffee and much more – one new vendor specializes in woodworking.
“We see so many people every Saturday during our market season and we hope to see everyone out again this weekend,” said Gunderson. “It’s been a long winter, we are so looking forward to being open, COVID restrictions or not we still want to see everyone.”
In a typical year, the farmers’ market would have an indoor concessions area for shoppers to pick up a bite to eat, however due current guidelines they are not having one this year.
Gunderson says they have invited food trucks to park outside. It originally was just one food truck, but Gunderson received requests from other businesses for their food truck to get involved as well. One will be serving breakfast, with more trucks joining for lunch.
“We will be using food trucks this year and it’s another way of supporting local,” said Gunderson.
