Megan Morrison will be taking Highway 3 to Lethbridge this fall when she joins the Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s soccer team, and with ties to city, Morrison is used to the trip.
She recently played for the Lethbridge Football Club and following a tournament she says an article was published in the city’s newspaper saying how the team did and that she scored some goals.
“One of the assistant coaches for the Kodiaks saw that and showed it to Sean Carey, the head coach and they invited me to camp that summer,” said Morrison, who will be graduating from Monsignor McCoy High School.
Another McCoy grad is making the jump to play soccer in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference next year as well, but he’s staying put in the Hat.
Paul Wasylyk recently played for the Rattlers Academy Soccer Club in Medicine Hat and has committed to play for the Medicine Hat Rattlers in the upcoming season.
Morrison also had an offer from the Rattlers, but she opted to make the move to Lethbridge, and she says she’s excited to be a part of a competitive team. She adds it was important Lethbridge is still close to home.
The Kodiaks are getting a player who uses her speed to her advantage, says Morrison.
“I’m a pretty fast reacter and I’m pretty quick on my feet I would say,” she said. “They’re definitely getting someone that can react quickly and chase down a ball.”
The speedy forward has played soccer since she was four or five years old, and started playing for RASC when she was in Grade 5.
