GEORGE SCHONHOFER

1940 ~ 2021

George Schonhofer was born on October 15, 1940, in Castor, AB, and passed away after a short illness while at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at the age of 80 years. George was one of 10 children born to Matilda and Sebastien Schonhofer. His siblings included Lydia, Mary, Lena, Joan, Fred, Frank, Jack, John and Simon. George is survived by his brother, Simon (Marg) Schonhofer of Buffalo, AB. sister-in-law, Beverly Schonhofer of Waseca, SK, as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and more. He loved spending time with family and his family loved spending time with him. George was raised in rural Alberta and, as a lad, worked on the family farm, later moving to the Michener Centre in Red Deer. He then moved to Medicine Hat where he lived in several homes until moving into supported accommodation with REDI. George was very much involved with his community. For many years he attended the weekly Friendship Club where he socialized, joined in the singing and listening of Bible stories. George also participated in various activities through CORE Association and REDI Enterprises. He enjoyed art, bowling, swimming, horseback riding, taekwondo and he even completed a one-hour pilot training course. He loved the outdoors, whether it was a drive in the country, camping at Elkwater or going on cruises. He had many adventures, including trips to several provinces and states. George was an ardent fan of rodeos, hockey, baseball and any community events. Everywhere he went, at home or abroad, George loved meeting people, shaking hands and chatting. George was humble, curious, creative and intelligent. He marvelled at the world around him. A Celebration of George’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor George Koopmans officiating. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. Due to COVID – 19 restrictions, the Funeral Celebration will be by invitation only. 1946 ~ ROBERTA KELLY ~ 2021


Roberta Kelly, loving wife of John Kelly, passed away on May 2nd, 2021 at the age of 74 years. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 55 years, John; children and grandchildren, John Kelly (Kyle and Cassandra); Barb Kelly (Justin and Brady) and Kerri Kelly; as well as their loving dog, Chicko. Roberta was born in Woodridge, Manitoba to her loving parents, Marcus and Dorothy Materi. She was the oldest of her siblings, Larry (Denise) Materi, Becky Materi, and Maria (Tom) Vetter. Roberta was a loving wife and mother. She had a loving and caring smile and dedicated twenty years to the Downtown Dairy Queen and was well known to all as the “Dairy Queen Lady”.
