Nine local firms are keeping close company among finalists for Alberta Business of Distinction Awards. Medicine Hat YMCA, Masterpiece Southlands Meadows and REDI Enterprises are three of the four finalists in the mentorship category that will be decided when provincial award winners are announced in June. Medicine Hat area also boasts two finalists in two other categories. “Mentorship is an important strategy we use at all levels within the YMCA,” said YMCA CEO Sharon Hayward in a statement. “To receive this award locally and then go on to be a provincial finalist recognizes the hard work of our employees and volunteers. We are very pleased to see such strong representation from Medicine Hat in this award category.” And representation from Medicine Hat isn’t limited to that specific class of nominations. Boylan Imaging and Canadian GunHub, of Dunmore, are both up for top marketing award. Among young entrepreneurs across Alberta, Infinity Dance Inc. and Evoke Inspired Marketing are in a category of five finalists. Evoke was opened in 2015 as a marketing company in the city. “It is my dream job and I am so grateful that I get to do that every day,” said owner Brooke Burden. Infinity opened in 2018 under the direction of Stephanie Gronning. Â As well, local technology firm Kinetisense is competing for the “Leading Edge” award, and the Medicine Hat location of the Home Depot is a finalist in the diversity category. The Alberta Business Awards of Distinction are presented by the Alberta Chambers of Commerce. According to group, 270 nominations this year from local chambers were whittled down to 52 finalists in 13 categories. Award winners will be announced June 25 in a ceremony of which details are still to be determined. 14
