1928 ~ HELEN LAMB ~ 2021

Mom slipped away quietly on the evening of April 17th, 2021 surrounded by the reminiscing voices of her loved ones. Mom is lovingly remembered by her children, Maureen (John Flood), Marilyn, Craig (Gail), and Garth (Donna); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason), Hazel and Lochlan, Scott (Manda), Teddy, Eli, Oliver, and Skylar; Michael (Becky), Jack; Ryan (Tracy), Riley, Austin, and Kara; Curtis (Twyla); Cole (Chrissi); as well as many nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and family in Scotland. As Mom was the last of her generation, her family circle was wide but close. She treasured all the phone calls, cards, and stories shared over the years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill in 1993; her parents, Adam and Alvira Porter; Bill’s parents, James and Jean Lamb; a brother, Russell Porter; sisters, Irene Larden, and Marian Budd; brothers-in-law, Percy Larden, Russell Budd, Robert Lamb; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Lamb, Elsie Lamb, and Iris Porter; niece, Betty Jean Tessier (Porter); nephews, Norman Larden and Ken Lamb. Mom was born on her parent’s farm at Kincaid, Saskatchewan, on August 31st, 1928, the youngest of four children. She took her teacher training in Moose Jaw in the late 1940s, fulfilling her childhood dream of becoming a teacher. Mom and Dad married in August 1952, making a beautiful life together; always putting family first, and cherishing every moment with us all. We loved hearing the stories of their courtship. She was always interested in the work of the church—singing in choirs, being secretary to Sunday schools, and volunteering where and when needed. She joined the Square Circle Unit of Westminster United Church Women in 1988 and was blessed with many close friendships. “I shall not pass through this world but once; therefore, any good that I can do or any kindness I can show or any good that I may do, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” Etienne de Grellet . 1936 ~ EDWARD HERRMANN ~ 2021

Edward “Eddie” Herrmann was born June 1, 1936 in Medicine Hat, Alberta to John and Emma Herrmann. Raised on the family farm near Schuler, Ed took his early education at Friedensfeld School, travelling to school by horse and buggy with his brothers and sisters. Ed loved life on the farm and his sister Annie would often find young Ed playing in the grain bins in the wheat or using old bones as trucks. Farming alongside his parents and siblings Ed found his passion. He continued farming with his father, eventually taking over the family farm after his dads passing in 1959. In March of 1969, Ed decided to join his best friend Roger and Roger’s girlfriend, Ruby in picking up Ruby’s sister, Darlene from the train station. Upon meeting, Ed made a date with Darlene for the next day. Ed married Darlene Elsasser on October 10, 1970 at Grace Baptist Church. They resided on the family farm, building their own home and raising their family. Ed leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Darlene; daughter, Elaine (Stuart); sons, Blaine (Elly) and Scott (Amanda); grandchildren, Shannon (Ryley) Miller, Reid Wilkie, Emma Herrmann, Annie Herrmann, Luke Herrmann, Elizabeth Herrmann; great granddaughter, Paisley Miller; brother, Albert (Elma) Herrmann; sisters, Ella Van Maarion, Eva (David) Knock and Bernice Gyorkos; sister-in-law, Pat Herrmann; brother-in-law, Roger Ancion. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Emma Herrmann; brothers, Victor, Clarence, Alfred and Denny; and sister, Annie (Gilbert) Becker. Ed’s love of the farm was strong and he was a long standing member of the Drowning Ford Grazing Association. He was a hard worker, spending many long hours outside doing what needed to be done; fixing miles of fence, picking rocks or tending to his Herefords. Ed loved animals, particularly his horse, Princess, who he raised from birth. Achieving a century farm in 2012, Ed fully retired handing the reigns to his sons.

Ed found so much joy in his grandchildren. He would always be found down on the floor stacking dominos or playing crazy eights and would always say yes to their requests for trips to the park or for ice cream. Ed was an expert at putting his grand-babies down for a nap as he always joined them; they had the best sleeps with Grandpa Ed on his recliner. So dedicated, Ed even received a volunteer award from Shannon’s school for supervising field trips riding the bus. Ed leaves a wonderful and lasting legacy to his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. The family is grateful to the staff at Masterpiece for the loving and caring environment they provided to Ed. 1974 ~ CRISTA HERTER ~ 2021

Crista Michelle Herter of Medicine Hat passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the age of 46 years. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Nathan Herter; four children, Deja Smith, Dakayla Smith, Dakota (Rodhem) Roney and Hailey Herter; her father, Dennis Lutz (Patty Drysdale); sister, Tracie Lutz (Shawn Martin); her nephews, Kyler (Savannah) Gamez and baby Enzo, Jaxon Gamez and Sidney Shulson; Nathan’s family, Corwin Herter, Nataysha Herter (Tyson Chartrand) and their children Aria and Dwayne; her mother and father-in-law, Faith and Shane Herter and gramma, Grace Heller. She was predeceased by her mother, Brenda Lutz. DAVE TINGLEY

1935 – 2021

 

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Charles David Tingley ‘Dave’ announces his peaceful passing after a short illness on Monday. April 19, 2021. Dave was a proud life-long resident of Medicine Hat. He graduated from Alexandra High School in 1955. He began his career at North West Nitro Chemicals (later Western Cooperative Fertilizers) in 1956 where he worked as the laboratory supervisor until he retired in 1999. Dave worked hard and his family never wanted for anything. He was quite the athlete as he played semi-professional baseball (catcher) with the Medicine Hat Orphans, who won the pennant and league championship in 1958. His best catch of all was Ardis Wuerfel, whom he married on April 7, 1959. They enjoyed 62 happy years together. Dave also enjoyed golfing, fishing, waterfowl hunting, fossil-hunting and camping. During the winter, he excelled at curling and won many bonspiels. He was an amateur paleontologist and spent many happy hours wandering the badlands in search of dinosaur fossils. His restoration of a mammoth tusk was displayed at the Medicine Hat Museum. In his spare time Dave enjoyed woodworking. He was a proficient craftsman and remodelled the family home, room by room. The family are all fortunate to have several pieces of his hand-made furniture that they will treasure forever. His daughters and grandchildren feel lucky that he spent so much time sharing his enthusiasm for his hobbies. Unfortunately, they are not quite as adept as he was! Dave is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ardis; daughters, Moira Gallagher (Mark) and Sharon Tingley (Courtney Tripp); grandchildren, Laura Gallagher, Sheila Gallagher (Trevor), Aaron Beaton and Jay Beaton; step-grandchildren, Laurier, Suzanne and Samuel Tripp; sister, Madeleine Oliphant as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Mary Jane and his siblings, Jean, Mary, Betty, Doreen and Raymond. In accordance with Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A service will be held during the summer respecting Covid regulations in effect at the time. SIMON VOELLER

1924 – 2021

 

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Simon Timothy Voeller. Simon passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital at the age of 96 years. He will be deeply missed by his sons, Larry (Cindy) and Ray (Anna); grandchildren, Aimee (Troy), Michael, Brett (Kennedy), Lisa (Walter), Bradley (Alaina), Chelsey (Ben), Derek and Jesse (Kaila) as well as three great-grandchildren, Sierra, Monroe and Nash. Along with his beloved wife, Mary, Simon was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Michael; brothers, Casper and Tony; sister, Anne Sauer as well as numerous other relatives. Simon was born on July 16, 1924, on the family farm in Maleb, AB., where he was raised and attended the Glen Echo School. He married his true love, Mary on June 19, 1951, and together they farmed and raised their two sons. In 1975, they purchased a home in Medicine Hat but continued to farm until the mid 1980’s. Even after dad retired from farming, he could still be counted on to bring out parts or help out in the field. His love for the land never left him. Dad was an extremely talented musician and played the banjo and violin. He played at numerous places and events throughout his lifetime with family members and friends. Many family and school reunions were entertained by his music. Dad “Loved to Play’ and we are sure he is already “Fiddling Around in Heaven.” He also enjoyed traveling throughout his life in his truck and camper and later in his motorhome with Mom. They ventured to many places, most of which always had a lake to put his boat and fishing gear to good use. He loved to fish and camp with friends and he always had some kind of fishing story to share with the family. Dad also loved company. Many nights were spent around the kitchen table playing cards or in the basement having a jam session or just simply having a visit… he loved to socialize! Dad adored his family and loved being able to watch his grandchildren grow up. They all loved him and his sense of humour especially when he would tease their grandma Mary, then look at them with that mischievous twinkle in his eye and that smirk on his face. We are all better people from having Dad in our lives and we will all miss him terribly, but do find some comfort knowing he has been reunited with Mom. A big thank you to Meadowlands for all of their care they provided to Dad. Due to COVID – 19 restrictions, the Funeral Celebration will be by invitation only. A Celebration of Simon’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Deacon Terry Olson officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
