Lethbridge Public Library celebrating Library Giving Day

By medicinehatnews on April 7, 2021.

Today, locals are invited to support their local libraries and enjoy a hot cup of joe in the process.
The Lethbridge Public Library is taking part in Library Giving Day, an international event started in 2019 by the Seattle Public Library as a fundraising event for local libraries.
“It’s a day for library supporters across North America to donate to their local public library to show their support,” said Elisabeth Hegerat, manager, Community & Economic Advancement at the Lethbridge Public Library.
The third annual Library Giving Day is the first year the Lethbridge Library has taken part. Hegerat said they intended to participate last April, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed their plans.
“But it’s something other libraries in the province have participated in and we thought it would be good to also take part in.”
The ongoing pandemic has once again limited the library on what they can do this year, but those showing up to make in-person donations can enjoy a hot cup of coffee — fittingly dubbed Readers Roast, a dark blend — from Cupper’s Coffee & Team with a portion of each purchase going toward the library.
“We’re hoping people will happy to join and donate toward the library,” said Hegerat. “Of course, we’re happy to get support all year round, but today is a good day to show up participate.”
Interested donors can show up at any of the Lethbridge Public Library locations to take part.
“We’re not open for browsing, but we are open from grab-and-go pickups,” said Hegerat. “You can donate at the customer service desk or you can go to our website (www.lethlib.ca) and click on the ‘donate’ button and donate online. Those donations will be online through Canada Helps.
“We hope to have some future developments next year, but for now we’re happy to offer an online option.”
A Lethbridge Public Library card provides access to physical items and digital content including eBooks and eAudiobooks through Libby and Overdrive, magazines and newspapers through Flipster and Press Reader, archived newspapers on Canadian Newspaper Archive, graphic novels and streaming content via hoopla Digital, graphic novels on Comics Plus, arts and crafts video classes with Creativebug, use of the Library Extension browser add-on, and educational content via Gale Courses, Pronunicator, and SOLARO.
