Van Mulligen joins up with hometown Tigers

By Medicine Hat News on April 7, 2021.

Hometown defenceman Josh Van Mulligen has been called up to join the Medicine Hat Tigers.

The 15-year-old Hatter is the team’s first local product since Redcliff’s Dylan MacPherson closed out his Western Hockey League career in 2019. Van Mulligen’s local club team, South Alberta Hockey Academy, announced the news on social media Monday evening.

Van Mulligen becomes the sixth member of SAHA’s U18 male prep squad to join the Tigers this season alongside Oren Shtrom, Tyler MacKenzie, Cayden Glover, Oasiz Wiesblatt and Teague Patton – but the first defenceman.

He managed to get in six games with SAHA before the pandemic put things on hold. While he didn’t register any points in those six games, Van Mulligen recorded 13 goals and 14 assists over 31 games with the South East Athletic Club’s U15 AAA Tigers in 2019-20 before getting selected by Medicine Hat in the second round of the WHL bantam draft at 39th overall.
