The sentencing hearing for a former well-known figure in the city has been put off until late June.

Wayne Smith pleaded guilty Feb. 16 to one charge of accessing child pornography, one day before the matter was set to go to trial.

A sentencing hearing set to take place Monday morning at Medicine Hat Provincial Court, but was adjourned to June 22.

The reason for the adjournment is not immediately clear.

Smith was the executive director of the City Centre Development Agency from 2012 until 2016.

He was charged by Medicine Hat Police in conjunction with Alberta Integrated Child Exploitation unit in June 2019.
