Medicine Hat’s Historic Clay District is hosting a 50/50 draw to raise funds for its operating costs.

Medalta just recently launched the raffle and already has a pot of more than $3,000. The total raised will be split between the winner and Medalta.

In a Facebook post from a few days ago, Medalta explained that 33 per cent of its funding comes from government sources, while the other two thirds comes from fundraising and revenue the organization can raise.

“This will be pretty straightforward and easy,” said marketing and communications co-ordinator Jessica Day. “Tickets are only available online, and people can find a range of ticket packages available.”

One ticket goes for $10, while 100 tickets costs $100.

“This is a great way for us to do a fundraiser,” said Day. “We’ve been trying to do more online this year due to COVID-19, and this is probably the most major fundraiser we’ve done so far.”

Day says Medalta has more plans for online fundraising.

“We’re looking into doing some demonstrations over Zoom,” she said. “We know that all businesses and organizations have had to shift online, so we’re definitely going to do more going forward.”

Like other organizations, Medalta has been forced to cancel its biggest funding events.

“The biggest thing we had to cancel was the Black and White Gala,” said Day. “Also, our Heritage Christmas was just cancelled.

“This raffle is going to make up a bit of that lost funding.”

Day says money raised will go to overall operational costs and more raffles could be held in the future if interest is there.
