1924 ~ VICTORIA DEIS ~ 2021

Victoria Deis (nee Lerner) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the age of 96 years at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Victoria was born June 10, 1924 in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan to Rochus and Mathilda Lerner. She was the third of six children that grew up on the family farm near Fox Valley. On October 20, 1947 she married Valentine “Walter” Deis. They began their life together and started a family on the Deis homestead. They moved into Fox Valley where Walter worked for several years as a grain buyer for Patterson while they continued to farm. They retired from farming in 1984 and moved into their newly purchased house in Medicine Hat. In 1993 they became condo owners and residents of the newly opened South View Grand. Victoria continued to live there after Valentine’s passing. Walter and Victoria enjoyed many happy years of retirement; dancing, bowling, playing cards and generally socializing with their many friends. Victoria leaves to cherish her memory five children, Wilfred (Bonnie) Deis of Okotoks, Don Deis of Saskatoon, Patrick (Beverly) Deis of Calgary, James (DondaLee) Deis of Fox Valley and Judy (Heinz) Strothmann of Medicine Hat; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; her brother, William “Bill”, her sister, Rosemarie Sowinski as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Valentine; her parents, Rochus and Mathilda and three brothers, Leo, Marcus, and Paul. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a funeral mass by invitation only will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish 1451 Strachan Road SE MEDICINE HAT, AB T1B 4V3, on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 11:00am with Father Iqbal Khurshid celebrant. 1935 – MARTIN GYORKOS – 2021

Martin Gyorkos passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the age of 85 years, beloved husband of Bernice Gyorkos of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory three children, Cindy Gyorkos (Randy Stein), Susan (Shaun) Meagher and Jeff Gyorkos all of Medicine Hat; two grandchildren, George Meagher and Jillian Meagher; one brother Michael Gyorkos; two sisters, Mary Gyorkos and Anne Davies as well as one sister-in-law Doreen Gyorkos. Martin was predeceased by his parents Anna and Stephen Gyorkos and two brothers, Steve (Mary) Gyorkos and John Gyorkos. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. (Social distancing and masks are mandatory). Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a funeral mass by invitation only will be celebrated in the St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Roque Pereira celebrant.

1937 – DONNA BABA – 2021

Donna Francine Baba passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the age of 83 years, beloved wife of Ron (Toki) Baba of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory two children, Bryan Florence and Trevor Florence; one granddaughter and two great grandchildren, Mary Baba and her children Reed Baba and Raya Dousselacre; four sisters, Elenore Bell, Dorothy Cox, Esther Sherwood and Alice Greening as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Frances and Arne Jacobsen; one son Kerry Baba on December 29, 2019 and one daughter Dawn Baba in 1970; three brothers, Howard Jacobsen, Robert Jacobsen and Gilbert Jacobsen; two sisters, Agnes Olsen and Thelma Daly. Alfredo Humberto Aravena passed away at his home in Lethbridge on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at the age of 80 years. Arthur “Art” John Squire passed away on Friday, February 5th, 2021 at the age of 77 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Curtis (Tracey) Squire of Cypress County, AB and Yvonne (Greg) Severin of Medicine Hat, AB; grandchildren, Nathan (Amber) Severin, Amber-Lynn (Evan) Maclean, Madison Squire and Julia Squire; great-grandchildren, Austin, Kayden, and Samuel; special friend, Ruth Kilmer; sister, Violet Bauer; as well as numerous nephew and nieces. Art was predeceased by his loving wife, Marlene; infant children, Janet Yvette, Marlene Lynette, and Shaun Sheldon.
