Folk music fans in the city are able to breath a collective sigh of relief.
Tongue on the Post music festival organizer Rob Pape was able to get approval for a livestreamed version that will begin Monday.
The festival was stuck in limbo earlier this week due to health restrictions around gatherings indoors. Specifically, TOP was unsure if its venue, Medalta, could be open for performers during the pandemic.
“Alberta Health Services has given us the green light,” said Pape. “We won’t have an audience like we normally do, but the shows will still be taking place virtually.
“We be livestreaming every day from Monday to Friday.”
Shows will start at 2 p.m. from Monday to Friday on the Medicine Hat Folk Music Festival Facebook page.
All the acts at this year’s festival are local or Alberta-based, something Pape says is important.
“We have such a great talent pool here in Medicine Hat,” he said. “It’s always important for us to showcase all of the amazing artists here.”
The final show of the festival is Jan. 30 at 7 p.m., and will feature Celeigh Cardinal along with duo Flint and Feather.
“This is going to be a phenomenal show,” said Pape. “We’re really proud of this one and it’s a show people need to check out.”
Posters for each day’s show are being shared on the Medicine Hat Folk Music Club’s Facebook page.
